Leasing
Leasing a Norwegian Fjord horse is an option for those of you in the Seattle area. For those taking minimum weekly lessons with one of our instructors - you are eligible! This is an option for both adults as well as youth and provides a wonderful way to have an "ownership" opportunity of a Fjordhorse.
We offer our partial leases a little different than most traditional horse leases and make it more cost effective for you.
You pick 1-3 days every week with your specific horse, either AM (7am - 1pm) or PM (1pm - 7pm), at a fraction of the cost of ownership. This is your time with your horse...use it as you wish. Work on those things from your last lesson that you want to master. Give her a bath or spend some extra time just walking with your horse. Gain more confidence with your horsemanship sills and advance your knowledge at your own pace. Have a nice conversation with someone who will keep your confidences and will love you no matter what (Personally, that is my favorite).

Priority:
We know you love your lesson horse...what a great opportunity for you to spend some extra time with her as well yourself. Priority for leasing will be given to current students first, with their current horses. After that, we will be opening up leases to new students coming in. Other priority advantages include: * Current lessees will be given priority for horse shows for the show season. * Current lessees will be given priority for our trail ride outings. * Current lessees will be given first option to purchase their leased mare's foal (if mare is bred). As I used to tell the dads and/or husbands...horses are WAY cheaper than therapy. And for that matter, can be cheaper than a meal out every week..
Here is a great article on the
Cost of Horse Ownership for you to compare with.
Although it is a great basis - call and check around to compare local costs here in the Seattle metro area. Boarding a horse is not as cheap as some sites say and rather $500 a month is not an unheard of number in the Seattle area...Neither is $700 any more. And that is just ONE aspect of your horses costs.
Frequently Asked Questions::
Q: I don't take lessons but want to lease a Fjord - can I lease a different one from you?
A: We want to make sure our amazing horses are being given consistant messages by everyone riding them. Putting a new rider, without the same training just isn't an option for us.
Q: I just started taking lessons last week, when can I start leasing my horse?
A: Congrats on a great choice for lessons. Your knowledge and skills will be evaluated by Tammy and/or Corinne to ensure you have enough knowledge to be safe while caring for and riding your horse on your own. Basics on the evaluation will include your ability to control the horse both in hand and under saddle as well as saddling and basic grooming knowledge. We just want to make sure you're not going to brush the horse with a hoof pick or clean their feet with a body brush. You don't need to be a master horse perosn - we just want you to be safe.
Q: Can I take my leased horse to another barn?
A: No. Partial leases are meant to be shared here and these wonderful horses also teach lessons the rest of the week. This is also their home and their herd. We KNOW Fjords and we know their routines and diets. We are not offering leases as a way to "unload" a horse, but rather to make Norwegian Fjord horses affordable and accessible to all.
Q: Why is it so affordable?
A: Again, we want to make the Norwegian Fjord horse as accessible as we can and this is our little way of doing that for a SELECT few individuals on VERY special horses. We know of some facilities that charge up to $800 a month for a show quality horse on partial lease. We hope to keep our costs contained and therefore reasonable to all.
